Tess Deeks was born and grew up in Italy to an English father and Irish mother. Over the past four years she has been travelling back and forth from Italy to England for her studies and work. Tess was part of the youth jury in the Huesca International Film Festival in June 2008. She was an assistant to the director Susana Barriga for her documentary The Illusion. In 2007, Tess, graduated from the University College for the Creative Arts in Canterbury, where she read Fine Arts and received a First Class Honours and was awarded the Polly Stevens Prize for the Innovative use of the Human Form. In 2006, Tess won a grant to study at the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, in Spain. In Italy, Tess, works with the Cooperative Suttvuess, based in Rome, who produce independent films and documentaries, which are socially and politically related. Tess has had various solo and group exhibitions in Rome, England and Spain over the past four years.
Tess Deeks works along the lines of activist and intervention art and uses photography and documentary filming for the continuity of her work.
